Launching JUA June: Sustainable swimwear from and for the ocean
JUA June was born for my love for nature and passion for fashion. The ocean has always been my favorite place, even as a child I was always snorkeling, excited to discover all the marine life. I would take old bread with me to the beach after breakfast and throw it in the ocean, to see if more and different types of fish would come closer so I could see them better. The fact that in a few years time, we might have more plastic than fish in the ocean if we do not change our habits is therefore extremely sad and upsetting to me. When I discovered it was possible to turn these waste problems into solutions thanks to the help of amazing charities and companies, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to create something beautiful.
All our swimwear is made of the combined materials of ocean plastic, ghost fishing nets as well as landfill waste. With this, we want to contribute to a greener fashion industry, promote a sustainable lifestyle and eco-friendly consumption.
After completing my swimwear design course in London, I knew I wanted to create swimwear that is not only sustainable, but also fashionable, celebrating the female body and fitting perfectly. I found it difficult to find swimwear that was stylish but sustainable and of good quality, in styles that would suit me. In the future I am hoping to create even more types that fit different body types and sizes. Our items are made of high quality and therefore made to last. The collection is feminine and flattering to the body, with high leg models and accents on the waist. I wanted to create swimwear that would make you feel confident, is sexy but elegant and classy.
Every piece is designed by me and made in London. This is how we keep our business small and sustainable, as we know our factory works ethically. We only create small amounts of stock each item, so we can minimize stock and waste. Our left over fabrics are used for accessories. Our focus on being sustainable and eco friendly goes further than just our swimwear. Our shipping boxes, labels and tags are made of recycled materials and can be recycled again as well. In addition, our tissue paper and stickers are all eco-friendly, FSC Certified, acid free and using soy inks. We are proud to be able to implement our vision throughout our whole company.
Our first collection is made up of two one pieces and a bikini, and all items are named after the ocean.
I have worked on this for a long time and seeing my vision come to life was a very exciting experience! I hope you will love our pieces as much as I enjoyed creating them.
